Cranky Uncle video: FLICC

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

As everyone are in virtual classrooms at the moment, I thought this was a good time to begin creating video resources for educators looking to 1) teach critical thinking to their students, and 2) explain climate science by debunking the most common myths about climate change (a teaching technique known as misconception-based learning). So starting today, I will be taking the cartoons from Cranky Uncle vs. Climate Change and converting them into animated videos!

My first video is an introduction to the five techniques of science denial (FLICC): Fake experts, Logical fallacies, Impossible expectations, Cherry picking, and Conspiracy theories.

It’s a short and sweet video, only 2:18 minutes long. It begins with an animated version of the 97% consensus poster (yes, every scientist in that crowd is a caricature of a real climate scientist).

Next, I animate a cartoon of the Cranky Uncle in his natural habitat – pointing out the five techniques of science denial.

That acronym again is FLICC! 🙂

Note: the reason I’m including still version of these images (which are 1920 x 1080) in this post is if in case educators want to use the images in their own slideshow. I’ll be posting more animated videos over the next few weeks so stay tuned to my Twitter account @johnfocook or sign up for my weekly email.
