After one of the Vice President’s staffers tested positive for COVID-19, Donald Trump responded with the following ramble:
This is why the whole concept of tests aren’t necessarily great. The tests are perfect, but something can happen between a test where it’s good and then something happens and all of the sudden. She was tested very recently and tested negative, and then today I guess for some reason she tested positive.
The phrase “for some reason” jumps out at me. When receiving a scientific result that they doesn’t like, a science denier’s instinctive response is to question the data rather than focus on the cause of the result.
Typically when I draw a parallel argument illustrating the logical flaw in some misinformation, I need to tweak the text to fit the analogous situation. This is an example where no amendment was required.
H/T to Melanie Trecek-King for this idea.
